A modern take on a traditional style
Food Loves Beer Editors | April 23, 2014
Stone Saison pours a bright hazy gold with a white, rocky head. Belgian yeast aromas are dominant in the nose, mixing with citrus, allspice, sweet malts and menthol. The flavor is reminiscent of a gruit, with a complex blend of herbs, galangal and lemon zest leading to a long herbal bitterness. The brewer’s addition of grains of paradise adds a peppery spiciness on the tongue, while lemon thyme and lavender are complemented by the minty bitterness of Perle hops and bring a medieval touch to this very modern beer. We suggest pairing Stone Saison with bold, rustic cuisine – we paired it with Kalbi (Korean Barbecued Short Ribs) with Kimchi Fried Rice.
