FULL SAIL BOURBON BARREL AGED IMPERIAL STOUT, 2014 VINTAGE
With passionate anticipation, beer lovers across America anxiously await the release of Full Sail Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout each February. Now in its fifth vintage, this beer is part of the Brewmasters Reserve series which showcases small batch limited production beers. A beer of this magnitude will last years in the cellar with proper care, but we were eager to sample the 2014 vintage from ours.
This bottling of Imperial Stout was brewed in December 2012 and aged in bourbon casks from Heaven Hill, Four Roses and Makers Mark for a year. Those barrel aged beers were then blended, lending an incredible depth and complexity from both the whiskey and the wood. White chocolate, fudge, and coffee come through in the nose along with the vanilla-oak nuances of bourbon. The flavors are equally as inviting, with warm brownies and toasted walnut coming to mind, finishing with a subtle hint of char wrapped in a velvety bittersweet chocolate.
Serve in a snifter or tulip glass at 50-55 F.
Suggested Food Pairings: Full Sail Imperial Stout is as rich and decadent as dessert, with the warming alcohol of an after dinner cordial. Savor it on its own, or try it with a double chocolate brownie and French vanilla ice cream.
