An American original lives on.
Food Loves Beer Editors
With so many breweries pushing the envelope of what a beer can be, we appreciate the counterbalance of traditional beers and historic styles that brewers like Mark Carpenter are so adept at creating. Don’t get us wrong, we love exotic ingredients and creative interpretations, but we also love knowing that we can take a taste back in time, too.
Anchor California Lager is a recreation of California’s first authentic lager, brewed over 135 years ago by Boca Brewing Company. In existence for a mere 18 years, Boca nonetheless set the standard for lager brewing on the west coast. Bright gold with a fine rocky head Anchor California Lager has aromas of freshly baked biscuits, hay, and subdued, floral hops. The flavor is the perfect harmony of delicate malt sweetness balanced with crisp lager yeast and herbaceous bitterness. Serve in a pint glass at 40-45 F.
Suggested food pairing: The bright, clean flavors of Anchor California Lager work well with a wide range of dishes. Try it with caprese salad, fresh oysters, or jerk chicken.
