Celebrate spring with this uniquely Californian saison
Food Loves Beer Editors | April 9, 2014
New for 2014, Anchor Saison is an imaginative interpretation of a classic Belgian style. There’s a lot going on in this beer, and it’s all good. Aromas of fruit salad, fresh-squeezed lemonade and tea bread mingle with mango and banana. Tropical flavors are present on the palate, where the brewer’s addition of lemongrass, lemon peel and ginger marry wonderfully with spicy yeast and the bold fruity bitterness of Chinook and Nelson Sauvin hops. Anchor Saison has a huge hop profile in both flavor and bitterness, yet it never overwhelms the true essence of what a saison should be. Pair Anchor Saison with rich cheeses like Humbolt Fog and Maytag Blue, or enjoy it with rhubarb crisp for the perfect ending to a fine meal. Serve in a pint glass at 43-50 F.
